GOALS was founded by Marcello Schmidt, MD, MSc, FRCPC — Royal College specialist in Internal Medicine and Critical Care, and Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine.
He has practised at the Guelph Bariatric Clinic at Guelph General Hospital since March 2025, and treats obesity the way medicine treats any other chronic condition — with evidence, follow-up, and respect. He sees every patient in the program himself.

Body-composition scan
A scan that shows muscle, fat and water — about five minutes, and nothing invasive. Your first scan is included with your first visit; a four-scan pack tracks what changes over the following year.
